Wide range of preservatives to meet your needs

Blagden offers a range of preservatives for cosmetic and personal care products. It includes natural and Ecocert-approved systems as well as antioxidant blends to protect against alteration caused by exposure to oxygen. A selection appears below.

Ecocert-Approved System

BlagGuard ENP (Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Water): An Ecocert-approved blend for a wide range of applications, normally used in concentrations of 0.5-1.5%.

Mild and/or Parabens-Free Formulations

BlagGuard PEG (Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyl Glycerine): Provides a broad, balanced spectrum of effect against bacteria, yeasts and mould fungi. Maximum 1.1% concentration in both leave-on and rinse-off preparations.

BlagGuard BA (Benzyl Alcohol): Broad spectrum activity against bacteria and fungi over a pH range from 3.0 to 8.5. Maximum concentration level is 1.0%.

Parabens-Free Formulation

BlagGuard CMI (Chloromethylisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Magnesium chloride, Magnesium nitrate): Effective against bacteria, yeasts and mould fungi in leave-on and rinse-off formulations at maximum concentration of 0.10% over pH range 3.0 to 8.0.

BlagGuard CIB (Chloromethylisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Benzyl Alcohol, Triethylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol): Effective against bacteria, yeasts and mould fungi in leave-on and rinse-off formulations at maximum 0.21% concentration over a pH range up to 8.0.

BlagGuard IPT (3-iodo-2-propynylbutylcarbamate, phenoxyethanol): Easy to handle liquid with broad-spectrum protection compatible with a wide range of proteins and surfactants. It is effective across a pH range between 4.0 and 8.0 up to a maximum concentration level of 1.0%.

Single Ingredient Products

BlagGuard DU (Diazolidinyl urea): Excellent against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Use at maximum 0.5% concentration.

BlagGuard IU (Imidazolidinyl urea): Excellent against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Use at maximum 0.5% concentration

Parabens-Based Blends

BlagGuard DPM (Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben): Effective at 0.3 – 1.0% concentration in many formulation types, it is compatible with proteins and anionic, cationic and nonionic emulsifiers. It is an ideal preservative in both rinse-off and leave-on products and is particularly suitable for emulsions with a low oil phase (below 25%). It operates over a pH range of 3.0 – 7.0 and maximum use level is 1.66%.

BlagGuard MPB (2-Phenoxyethanol, Bronopol, Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, Propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate): It is a broad-spectrum liquid antimicrobial which is non-irritating to eyes, skin and mucous membranes. BlagGuard MPB is particularly effective in sun care formulations and wet wipes.

BlagGuard PPM (2-Phenoxyethanol, Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, Propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate): A broad-spectrum liquid antimicrobial which is effective in most cosmetic ingredients including nonionics. At typical usage levels of 0.3-1.0%, it is non-irritating to eyes, skin and mucous membranes. The maximum concentration is 1.39%.
