We can supply a product which provides the beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids associated with fish oils and which is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
XiaPure® Chia Oil is a natural plant-based product from our supply partner Taiyo. It’s very rich in the essential Omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is linked to cardiovascular health and reported to have beneficial effects on chronic inflammatory diseases, as well as being necessary for normal human growth and development.
Although chia-enhanced superfoods have been growing in popularity, chia oil itself is less well known. It therefore provides opportunities for new products which capitalise on public knowledge of chia as a superfood and the health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids.
Chia oil is a natural and sustainable source of Omega-3 fatty acids made from chia seeds harvested in Chile and Bolivia. It is produced using a unique cold-pressing technology that involves no chemicals or diluents and provides increased stability to preserve the seed’s nutritional characteristics. The result brings excellent oxidative stability to the product with increased shelf life and consistent fresh taste and smell.
The impact of Chia Oil was investigated in a 9-month study involving pregnant women who were given 16g chia oil supplements each day from their second semester. The results provide support for the use of Chia Oil in food and nutritional supplements as a vegan alternative to fish-based sources of Omega-3 and its safety during pregnancy. Authors of the research conclude that chia oil may constitute an available way to provide ALA in higher amounts to populations characterised by low fish consumption.
XiaPure® Chia Oil is almost colourless and tasteless with a slightly nutty note. It can be used in fatty products to replace up to 10% of the fat content or as a rapeseed or olive oil substitute in dressings. It is also supplied in the form of a powder, ideal for dietary supplements such as protein shakes, instant beverages and nutritional bars.
