Maltitol

Maltitol is a sugar substitute which is slightly less sweet than table sugar. Its properties are similar to sucrose but it has less calories and does not promote tooth decay. It is used in a variety of low-fat, low-calorie and sugar-free products including confectionary and gum. A sugar alcohol, it does not caramelise when heated.
